Custom order statuses and emails for them

I have seen that there was already one feature request like 4 years ago and so on and i think it would be a great feature if we could add order statuses, since the base one doesn't actually include all the statuses that great e-shop should have. Like shipped or ready for shipment and so on. To that addition it should have option to create custom emails for the custom statuses, i have tried to add the custom order status in functions.php, but i was unable to add custom email, it broke the whole delivery process.
